ABOUT - Sri Maha Prathiyangari Devi

Once upon a time this region was a fruit garden. Palani swami and savitramma couple happened to purchase this land. Savitramma had six children. In this forest region, there were no facilities like electricity, transportation etc. there were no houses nearby. This was an isolated area. They used to sell jack fruits, chikoo, banana, mangoes, coconuts, blue berries of this fruit garden and meet their ends. Below one of the jack fruit tree, there was a small structure. In this structure, an idol named muneshwara swamy made of small rocks was being worshipped since long time before our arrival. There was another small structure of chowdeshwari devi, where people from other places used to come here and worship.

Many mysteries happened here. in every trouble, lord muneshwara swamy himself used to help palani swami. In the fruit garden once we planted water melon creeper. we appointed a person to look after these creepers. We instructed him not to sleep in some marked place. He said carelessly, “once I had worked in graveyard. I know to protect myself. Relax swamy”. on a pournami, he rested on a small heap of stones near a small stream of water, where water near the well, used to flow. He felf as if someone hit him and he fell a side and broke his back bone. The next day we noticed him and admitted him to a hospital nearby. Till then he realized his mistake. After recovery, he used to visit this place to worship.

Once palani swamy lost of the important documents. After lot of searching, he was very much upset for the loss. Then a young boy came to him. searched and found those documents. This is one of the miraculous incidents happened in this fruit garden.in this way the lord used to help in one or the other way. Once palani swamy was in financial crisis. He was in deep thoughts. A man came to him and gave him ten thousand rupees, clarifying he owed the amount and returning it. On enquiry he said his name was muneshwara and left. The money survived the cause.

Once a tycoon asked us to sell ten acres of land to him. we sold it. The land was where lord muneshwara and chowdeshwari devi resided. We did not think of taking back the idols. He assured us that they will continue to worship these idols. We left the place. As time passed we lost all our property to make our ends meet.

Brother of savitramma was of spiritual path. He told us “you forgot the gods. You made a big mistake by selling the land where lord muneshwara and chowdeshwari devi resides.” Worship of the gods has been stopped. For this reason, you are going through tough times. He asked a solution for this in ashtamangala prashna. They replied “build a temple by donating some land.” Under the guidance of Narayana adkattair of kasargod in neeleshwaram the temple had been constructed. After prathishthapana they said this will an abode of a devi. Now the question arose is “who will perform Pooja here?” Gourish, son of Usha pratap, second daughter of palani swamy started performing Pooja after completion of school education.

Gourish used to attend tutorials in PUC. One day while returning from tutorial, an old man met him and asked for lift. Gourish agreed. The old man asked him to drop at bus stand. The old man had a bag with him which he asked to place in the front side of the vehicle. Gourish did so and returned. After a while he observed that the old man had forgotten his bag. Gourish turned back in search of the old man but in vain. His mother called him and asked the reason for being late at home. Gourish narrated the whole story. His mother asked him to return and assured him saying “we will find out the old man return the bag.” After returning home, his mother asked him not to give lift to any unknown person. She opened the bag and was startled by seeing the idol of a goddess, as if worshiped just now. His father assumed that somebody might have bought this idol for some temple. They enquired in nearby temples. But in vain. Nobody knew about this idol and the old man.

They kept the idol in water for three months not knowing what to do. One day a daily newspaper printed an article about maha prathyangari devi, her forms and her majesty. After reading this article, they left for grandmother’s native, Pallakad. There they met Narayana Adkattair. Before revealing the reason for their visit, Adakketair said “you found an idol of a Goddess with face of a lion and body of a female holding different weapons in hands. The idol is given by the divine itself. The temple should be built at a minimum distance of three hundred feet from your residence.”

Gourish swami’s Father and his friend Amarnath were at our residence at night. My father’s friend was sleeping upstairs. We did not sleep till late night. He came downstairs and slept on a sofa in the living room. He felt like a female entering the house from the main door with long hairs and was covered with a lot of ornaments. She was followed by four guardians. She went inside the Pooja room and seated there. Her guardians were standing outside the Pooja room. They saw Amarnath and one of the guardians came to him and turned his head the otherside and joined other guardians. Amarnath was in shock after this incident. He shouted “Govinda, Govinda,” in fear. The next morning, my father asked him to take bath and they both had darshan of the Goddess. Amarnath said, “how can you live in this house?” he said, “this is not a demon. This is the Goddess herself for I am alive and had her darshan.” He gave five thousand rupees present in his pocket at that time, for the construction of the temple. The pandit in the temple where we went also suggested the same.

Palani swami and savitramma gave land for the construction of the temple. They replaced the muneshwara swamy temple with a small temple structure. Pratap, father of Gourish swami helped financially and with the advice of sculptors the construction was going in full swing. The structure of the temple with rock was very costly. They needed more money for the cause. Even his grandmother sold her ornaments for time being to serve the purpose. Contractors and labour who took money in advance left the work incomplete. They had to go to their place and call them back to work. Constructing a temple is not an easy work. It needs a lot of hard work.

They had to face financial limitations. Palani swami slept in these deep thoughts. The Goddess gave vision in his dreams and said “do not worry. I am here. see there. Palani swamy turned and saw that a corner of the Pooja room was filled with money.” He woke up. The next day, head of Butterfly company came to his house. He was attracted by goddess’s form and said “this place will famous one day. Construct the temple without any hesitations and doubts.” Thus construction of this temple was completed. The Prathisthapana of the Goddess is performed in Phalguna masa in 2008 in the month of February.
